The Geechee Sailing Club is the proud host of the Annual St. Patrick’s Regatta.  Number 46 was held the weekend of March 22-23, 2025 on the Wilmington River of Savannah.  The winds were consistent for the most part on Saturday, and we were able to achieve our goal of having three fleet races for each of the three classes: Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker, and Rhodes 19.

That evening, the skippers & crews plus spouses, sponsors, and Geechee Sailing Club members enjoyed a wonderful evening at Molly McGuire’s on Wilmington Island.  Beer and wine flowed as everyone had a delicious buffet while watching a slide show of photos taken during the day.  Fleet race winners received trophies, a tricky tray raffle was held, and a celebratory cake was served.

On Sunday, we postponed the Pursuit Race by twenty minutes to allow time for the wind to blow in from the southeast.  We were rewarded with unexpectedly perfect conditions, which allowed all boats to sail close-hauled down river then come back flying their spinnakers or wing-on-wing.

This year the Race Committee gave a Sportsmanship Award to a boat who hit the starting pin, promptly took his penalty turn, then had issues with being over-sheeted which caused him to go into irons.  After several attempts, he was able to start.
