Social: Although the races and the cruises are certainly social events, the Club also hosts a variety of parties during the year. In 2007, the Robinson's hosted the 13th annual pool party (indoors of course). The "Geechee Olympics" has become a standard tradition for this winter social, and always proves to bring out the creative and adventurous. A summer favorite is the fish fry, hosted by the Highsmith family on the Vernon River. They cook fish, shrimp, hush puppies and grits on the dock as members gather late on an August evening. The big social event for the year is the Change of Watch, held in November. New officers that have been elected at the October meeting are presented, and out-going officers are recognized for their efforts during the year. The following awards are also presented: Sailor of the Year and Most Improved Sailor: These are awards for which nominations can be made and then voted on by the Board of Directors. Alice Vines Award: This is given to an individual member of the Club that, in the Commodore's opinion, has given extra effort during the year to the work of the club. This award is determined by the Commodore alone, and nominations are not accepted. Other events over the past few years have included a Valentines Party, Pool Party, Oyster Roast, a Fifties Party, and even a Hillbilly Ball.
